Wings is the Japanese version of the great "Wings of Fury" from Brøderbund for the Sharp X68000 and PC-98 computers. This version follows the same principal of the original, but this time you fly a Japanese Zero fighter (instead of the US F6F Hellcat) destroying US troops. The original Wings of Fury title was initially released for the Apple II computers and in 1990 ported to the Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, MS DOS, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64.

WingsSTORY / GAMEPLAY
This Wings Of Fury alternate version follows the same principal of the original, but this time you're on the Japanese side and fly a Japanese Zero fighter (instead of the US F6F Hellcat). The game is set in the Pacific Theater of WWII and the goal is to defeat the enemies (the US army) by destroying bunkers, turrets and barracks flying over a series of islands and killing all the enemy soldiers either with bombs or with your machine guns. the game is equally difficult to the original and it needs some practice to master the controls as you must dive all the way down in order to shoot the enemy troops and also be careful not to crash on the ground! You must also sink battleships, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. The weapons to complete these objectives are: bombs, rockets, and torpedoes. But be warned! There several incoming enemy US fighters on your way and a lot of ground anti-aircraft cannons pointing at you! You can also fly the screens backwards if you want to fulfill your destructive objectives.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
OK, Wings does not have the most impressive graphics we've ever seen (as the Wings Of Fury game on the Amiga) but nevertheless this X68000 exclusive has quite nice visuals with up to 60 colors on screen. The enemy troops and the ground installments, although tiny, are well presented. But the controls are an issue and this corresponds to the difficulty of the game as you need to be a bit precise in controlling the plane, especially when diving to shoot ground troops or releasing torpedoes and bombs. The sound is fine, with sampled airplane noise engine, gunfire and explosions, but strangely enough the awesome soldiers' screams of the Amiga, are missing!
